CHAPTER TWELVE

Eliza’s pulse raced, excitement setting her alight.

He’d come after her. He’d actually followed her up here. The very thought of him pursuing her made her want to run off and see what happened next.

She darted out of the building and down the worn stone steps into The Falconry, a grassy patch of land adjacent to the main keep. Her breath rasped in her lungs, her blood rushing. So much for cooling things off, she thought to herself, laughing. She couldn’t help herself. Marcus had been so adorable, and his apology was so heartfelt, it made her melt.

When she’d glanced his way, he looked so wired, his eyes flashing at her every time she’d looked round at him. She couldn’t resist hunting a place for them to be alone. She’d spied The Falconry from the window above. Now she was down here she saw a great big wrought iron aviary ran along the length of one wall, in front of which was well-tended grass, and, beyond, a low chain fence. Wilder greenery lay beyond it, outside the castle grounds.

She thrilled at his approach, his posture bold and self-assured. He was so darkly handsome, his body clearly defined by black jeans and khaki t-shirt. Just seeing him close the gap between them tugged at something in the pit of her belly. Pursuing her—he was truly pursuing her. Her body burned up with pleasure.

She stepped over the small fence. The wilder grass was on a steep slope, but there were trees and shrubs beyond and the grass was long enough for cover. She struggled through the wild grass hoping there weren’t any nettles.

“Gotcha,” he shouted.

She cried out with pleasure when he grabbed her around the waist. Glancing back, she saw they were just out of the view of anyone who might visit The Falconry. She dropped her shoulder bag and threw herself down on the wild grass.

Marcus followed, growling while he playfully bit against the soft skin on her collarbone. “There’s never a dull minute with you, Eliza Jameson.”

He stared down at her, his expression brooding.

The way he looked, all deep and thoughtful, took her breath away. She was weak. She simply couldn’t resist him. Plus, he brought out her naughty side. It was impossible to do anything but enjoy. She sighed.

He looked concerned. “You okay?”

“Yes, this is just so good, so much fun.” She stroked his face, cupping his bearded jaw, savoring the moment.

“It certainly is.” He moved his fingers down the soft skin of her neck and cupped her breasts through the fabric of her dress, fondling her through the skimpy material. “What, no bra?”

“That’s the good part about having small boobs. Don’t have to wear one all the time.”

“They’re not small. They’re pert, deliciously pert.” He growled low in his throat.

He really meant it. He did like them. Eliza felt wildly naughty, and moved his hands, pulling down the fabric to bare her right breast.

He grinned and ran his thumb over her nipple. “You’re so bad.”

“Maybe you bring it out in me.
